About him:
Dr Tan, one of our Consultant Cardiologists, had his basic education in Penang and furthered his medical studies at Univeristy of New South Wales, Sydney with an Honours degree. He obtained his membership with the Royal College of Physicians in United Kingdom. He subsequently completed his cardiology training at the National Heart Centre of Singapore.

Dr Tan has extensive experience in both medicine and cardiology. He previously worked at the Prince of Wales and Prince Henry Hospitals in Sydney as well as in Hospital Pulau Pinang. He served as a clinical specialist in Cardiology Department at Hospital Penang before transferring to Hospital Alor Setar as acting head of department of medicine. He subsequently joined the National Heart Centre of Singapore where he sub-specialized in intervention Cardiology. He is a certified Cardiologist in Singapore.

Dr Tan has performed countless procedures such as 2D-Echocardiogram, Dobutamine stress echocardiogram, Transaesophageal echocardiogram, Insertion of temporary and permanent pacemaker, Coronory angiography, right and left heart catheterization, pericardiocentesis, Balloon angioplasty and stenting for coronary, renal and iliac arteries. He also regularly performs, at any time of the day or night, primary angioplasty for acute heart attacks, which have been shown to improve survival. Bifurcation lesions and total occlusion stenting are some of his interests. Dr Tan has served as a lecturer and tutor for medical students from National Univeristy of Singapore and cardiac technician students at the Singapore Polytechnic. He presented and published several papers and journals at various international cardiology conferences. Prior to his return to Penang, he was the National Chief of adult cardiac resuscitation for nurses in Singapore. He has served at Penang Adventist Hospital as consultant cardiologist and physician since January 2002. He was regularly interviewed by local newspapers and he has been invited to write monthly columns for Chinese dailies such as Guang Ming and Indonesian Sin Chew. His articles were compiled into a book.

Dr Tan is fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien and Cantonese. He enjoys swimming, racket games, jogging, fine-dining and music. He is blessed with a musically talented wife and 2 daughters.
