Hospital Lam Wah Ee
Hospital Lam Wah Ee carries a legacy of community service that spans more than a century. First mooted in 1876 by several Chinese community leaders, the hospital was built in 1883 on a 10,600 sq. ft. plot at Muntri Street. Led by 12 community leaders in the board, the hospital provided free Chinese medicine consultation and prescription, relying on the services of experienced ‘sinsehs’ (traditional physicians) from China.
After World War II, the hospital, which was destroyed by air-raids, was rebuilt though fund-raising. In 1955, a new premise was built on the present site, of which the land was donated much earlier by the British East India Company. After a century, in 1983, the hospital launched its Western Medicine division.
Since the hospital’s inception, its traditional medical unit has maintained an examination system that encourages young people to take up the study of traditional medicine, while retains the best talent for the hospital. The system functions, where the top three candidates in the bi-yearly examination are automatically appointed as in-house physicians for a period of two years, which is considered a great honour. Since then, the system has trained many skilled traditional Chinese physicians in the state and other parts of the country.

My name is Mili and my father in law is currently recuperating from Nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
He was diagnosed (stage 4) beginning of this year and has gone through a round of chemo and radiotherapy. He just had his check up last week and the results is good.

Bulan januari saya membawa kakak cut mardiana berobat ke dr. Eng hee hwa di lam wah ee hospital. Kakak saya menderita sariawan yg sdh lama sekali..dr eng hee hwa sdh melakukan mri, memeriksa darah hasilnya bukan kanker. Akhirnya dilakukan biopsi utk mengetahui penyebab sariawan . Dokter janji 2 minggu kemudian hasil biopsi baru diperoleh . Dan kami disuruh menunggu kabar melalui telpon. Katanya nanti pihak hospital akan telpon hasilnya dan menjadwalkan kapan kembali ke lam wah ee. Sekarang sudah 1 bulan lebih tapi kami belum dikabari . Bagaimana ini . Kakak saya tiap hari menangis kesakitan dan tidak bisa makan. Kenapa pihak hospital tidak memenuhi janjinya ? Mohon di kabarkan ke dr ng hee hwa . Tks
